Viceregal legal compendium : Mexico : ms., 1528-1773 (bulk 1677-1773).

Volume of copies of legal documents regarding the government of New Spain from the early 16th century to the late 18th century. Includes two early compilations of the decrees of the Real Audiencia of Mexico City by Juan Francisco Montemayor, one of the major figures in colonial Mexican legal history. Most of the volume concerns legislation intended to improve the situation of royal finances through taxation reform, and also records several decrees regarding the Catholic Church. In addition, it provides a detailed record of the Habsburg and Bourbon legislation regarding New Spain.
